A good jacket can last for many winters if you look after it. These simple habits make a big difference.
Wash less, but wash right
Always check the care label first. Close all zips and buttons, turn the jacket inside out and use a gentle, cool cycle with a mild detergent. Skip the fabric softener, as it can affect the fabric and the filling.
Padded jackets
If the care label allows it, tumble dry on low heat with two clean tennis balls. They break up clumps of filling so the jacket keeps its shape and warmth.
Tailored coats
Brush off dust and fluff with a soft clothes brush after wearing. Treat small marks with a damp cloth and follow the care label for a full clean.
After a rainy day
Hang a wet coat on a wide hanger at room temperature and let it dry naturally. Keep it away from radiators, because direct heat can damage the fabric.
Store it properly
Hang your jacket on a wide hanger in a dry place. Do not store padded jackets compressed for long periods; let them breathe.
